Touch of Magic show Fundraiser
Thank you all for the support. We have been crippled since the last show since the unfortunate events of the world. As we rise to the challenge to bring our music sound to people everywhere, we are asking people to help bring our dreams of doing the 'Touch of Magic' show again here in our hometown area. Toledo, Ohio. We are talking with Maumee Theatre and like to do the show February 3rd, 2023, this year. This would be a beautiful warm introduction to Ivory Coast, West African music and a Zaouli dancer and so much more culture coming from Emmanuel Djo Bi's family. The Gouro traditions are still practiced to this day, and we are blessed with a master drummer, Emmanuel to bring his beautiful music. He is our lead drummer and shares his musical compositions from his lineage and more. He was the lead drummer for a couple Ivory Coast orchestras. Kimberly Djo is a native of Toledo, meeting Emmanuel in Africa to learn music. Now, she is bringing her music and amazing talent to the stage. Kimberly is the director and she can play the djembe, dun duns, balafon, and adds chorography. She once played drums and danced for Alma drum and dance here in Toledo. Our wonderful music teacher from the Washington local schools, Autumn. Autumn brings her talent and spirit to the stage with a keyboard and other percussion instruments. Tyler is gaining his master's at Bowling Green State University in Jazz music and has been growing professionally for years. As Djobi Ensemble grows and has taken people on tours to Africa, we would like to grow in our community. We teach at Washington Local schools, and have taught at a variety of Montessori schools, and a few Universities. We would like to bring this music learning to other schools and hopefully one day do fundraisers for schools to bring the music to them as well. There are many schools that do not have the funding, and these children do not have access to this knowledge. It can be life changing for some students. It brings unity amongst the schools and even the teachers get involved.
With the Touch of Magic show, we would like to share some of our original pieces to a ballet that was written by members of the group. We would like to keep Toledo, Ohio our hometown, and we hope to travel the world and share our music.
After the show from the fundraiser, we will offer a Djobi drum circle. Bring your djembe drum, shaker, and your dance.
